New UK–Turkey University Partnerships Set to Expand Student Exchanges and Joint Research

Educational cooperation between the United Kingdom and Türkiye continues to strengthen in 2026 through new university partnerships, research collaborations and student mobility initiatives.

In February, a UK university hosted a delegation from Istanbul Kent University to explore new areas of cooperation. Discussions included student exchange opportunities, Erasmus-related projects, joint research outputs and future international education initiatives. University representatives said such partnerships would provide students with broader international experience and improved career prospects.

The UK remains one of the most popular destinations for Turkish students pursuing higher education abroad. According to recent education policy documents, attracting a diverse international student population remains a key objective of the UK's International Education Strategy 2026.

Research supported by the British Council highlights the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation through joint degree programmes, short-term mobility schemes, research partnerships, summer schools and scholarship opportunities. Experts believe these initiatives can further strengthen educational links between the two countries.

Several British universities also continue to offer scholarships and financial support opportunities for Turkish students, particularly at postgraduate level. These programmes aim to make UK higher education more accessible to talented students from Türkiye.

Education specialists expect UK–Turkey academic cooperation to grow further in the coming years, creating new opportunities for students, researchers and institutions on both sides.
