UK visitor visa for my family from Türkiye: which documents, translation, flight tickets, and is an adviser needed?
Short answer
As of October 2026, GOV.UK: a passport, the details in the online form and biometrics at an appointment. Certified translations are required for documents not in English or Welsh. The page does not ask for flight or hotel bookings. An adviser is not required; you apply on GOV.UK.
Who does this apply to?
- This is general information. It does not assess anyone's personal situation. It is based on the GOV.UK page as of October 2026 and covers relatives coming from Türkiye on a Standard Visitor visa.
- A visitor visa is not for working, settling or relying on public funds. It is for tourism, family visits and short visits.
How does the application work?
- You apply online, then prove your identity and give biometrics (fingerprints, photo) at a visa application centre.
- GOV.UK says you usually get a decision within 3 weeks after you have applied, proved your identity and provided your documents. You can apply up to 3 months before travel.
- You pay the application fee. It is not refunded if the application is refused or a shorter visa is given.
Which documents and details are needed?
- A passport valid for the whole stay.
- Details in the online form: travel dates, where you will stay, estimated cost of the trip, home address, income and any offence history.
- Depending on the case: 10-year travel history, employer details, partner details, and the name and address of whoever is paying for the trip.
- At the appointment: proof of identity, biometrics and the required documents.
- A tuberculosis (TB) test certificate if the visit is for more than 6 months.
Translation, tickets and advisers
- Translation: The GOV.UK page says documents not in English or Welsh need a certified translation. Some people in groups say they sent Turkish documents without trouble. That is personal experience, not the official rule. Translating an important document, such as proof of income, lowers the risk.
- Flights and hotels: The page does not ask for flight or hotel bookings. It only asks for travel dates, where you will stay and the estimated cost. Buying a non-refundable ticket before the decision is still a risk.
- Adviser: Not required. You apply on GOV.UK, and the official pages show step by step what is asked. Using an adviser does not guarantee approval.
Points to watch
- Visitors cannot work. Avoid wording in the form or documents that suggests you will be doing work.
- Every family member, children included, needs their own application, fee and appointment.
- Official pages and fees change. This post is a general summary.
What can you do?
- Read the whole Apply for a Standard Visitor visa page first.
- For the rules, see the Visit guidance.
- For personal immigration questions, find a registered adviser: GOV.UK: Find an immigration adviser. Money paid to an unregulated adviser cannot be recovered.
