In short

  • This post is general information and does not assess anyone's personal situation. It is based on GOV.UK and the other official pages as they were on 18 October 2026. Amounts are updated each April and rules can change.
  • There are three main benefits: PIP (people under State Pension age with a long-term condition), Attendance Allowance (people at State Pension age who need care) and Carer's Allowance (carers).
  • GOV.UK's public funds list includes PIP, Attendance Allowance and Carer's Allowance; they cannot be claimed under permissions with a "no recourse to public funds" (NRPF) condition.
  • All three share a residence test: at least 2 of the last 3 years spent in England, Scotland or Wales (according to the Carer's Allowance and Attendance Allowance pages, refugees and people with humanitarian protection are exempt from this test).
