Clear filtersGOV.UK says that people who are UK resident for tax pay Capital Gains Tax when they sell property abroad. Relief can be claimed for double taxation. Tax residence is decided by days spent in the UK and ties, not by your visa or pre-settled status.
GOV.UK says that to change job or employer on a Skilled Worker visa you must apply to update your visa. From inside the UK a decision usually takes up to 8 weeks. The page does not require you to leave the UK. If a new employer says "apply from abroad", check the official page and an adviser.
As of October 2026, GOV.UK says an NI number is used for your tax and National Insurance record. You can start work before it arrives if you can prove your right to work. You apply online; it can take up to 4 weeks after proving identity.
